The Amber Alert issued for 8-month-old Jayce Matthew Hashem has been canceled after the child was found safe Friday afternoon. The child's father, Ismail Muhammed Hashem, believed to have taken the boy, is in police custody.
According to authorities, Ismail Hashem took his son from a babysitter at approximately 9 a.m. in the Longview, Wash., area, departing in a black 2012 NIssan Altima with Oregon plate number 434FPV. The car was described as a rental vehicle.
An Oregon State Police sergeant spotted the Nissan on I-5 in Wilsonville Friday afternoon and pulled the vehicle over. The child was safely recovered and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Ismail Hashem is the child's non-custodial parent and a restraining order was in place barring him from contact with the child.
Police ask that anyone with information call Longview PD (Cowlitz Co.) at 360-442-5803 or dial 911.
