WEST PLAINS, Wash.-- Firefighters knocked a house fire in about 20 minutes early Friday morning near Airway Heights.

Fire District 9 received a call at about 3:45 a.m. from a witness who noticed flames shooting from the roof of the home near the intersection of  Flint Road and Highway 2. Authorities said one person who was home at the time was able to escape unharmed. The rest of the family, including children, were not home when the fire started according to fire officials.

Firefighters immediately began attacking the fire and were able to keep it concentrated to a room upstairs according to the fire department.

The fire department remained on scene to assess the damage and will determine whether it is safe for the family to return home.
