SPOKANE-- Authorities discovered an assault rifle Tuesday they say was used in a murder late last year.
Officials found an AK-47 6 feet down in the Spokane River near the TJ Meenach Bridge.
A sheriff's spokesman said the riffle was used to kill Marcus Schur on December 27th. Schur's body was found in a creek near Bonnie Lake in Whitman County.
Crews utilized inflatable kayaks, two swimmers, two backup swimmers, and one crew member downstream with a safety rope. Divers had to keep the weapon submerged in water for evidential reasons.
It's been months of effort to find the rifle.
Investigators believe 24-year-old frank Lazcano and 20-year-old Daniel Lazcano shot and killed Schur, then dumped his body.
Sheriff Myers says their investigation shows the Lazcano brothers had a motive in the murder. It was most likely retribution on Schur after he allegedly stole from their home he said.
