PULLMAN, WA. -- The caller who found a woman seriously injured in the middle of a rural Palouse road this month told dispatchers he thought she was a deer.
"She is in the middle of the road," the caller told dispatchers. "I used my car to block the lane, but we have to get a car out here quick, it's pitch black."
Kristen Grindley, 23, was found bleeding and unconcious on Pullman-Albion Road, early last Wednesday morning. Whitman County Sheriff's deputies whether Grindley was either pushed or fell out of a car, and whether she was also hit by a vehicle. Grindley remains hospitalized at Sacred Heart in serious condition.
Grindley's boyfriend, Richard Pasma, has been questioned by detectives, but has not been named as a suspect in the case. KREM 2 News learned Pasma was arrested in April for assault against Grindley. A Washington State University Police officer witnessed the pair get into a physical altercation.
Deputies are waiting for Grindley to regain conciousness.
