BURLEY, Idaho (AP) — An Aberdeen man accused in last year's shooting death of Liopoldo Amezcua is set to stand trial in July.
Gerry Salgado is charged with seven felonies, including first-degree murder and attempted murder. His trial was originally set for April but The Times-News reports that defense attorney Keith Roark asked the court to delay the trial to allow more time to prepare.
Prosecutors say that on Sept. 19, Salgado shot and killed the 25-year-old Amezcua, beat Amezcua's 46-year-old fiance Estela Castro and stole her car during a drug deal near the town of Malta.
If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
