OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Chris Gregoire says special session is a possibility as lawmakers race to negotiate a budget a tax package before Thursday's deadline.

Gregoire told reporters Tuesday that majority Democrats in the House and Senate still have a lot of work to do. Gregoire said she won't know until Thursday whether they'll be close enough in agreement to finish before midnight, the scheduled time lawmakers must adjourn by.

Gregoire also said that she doesn't want lawmakers to go home without resolving their debate over school reform associated with the federal Race to the Top competition.

Gregoire says that is a "go home" issue for her.
