TRI-CITIES, Wash. (AP) — Hanford is a hot destination for tourists.

Hundreds waited until midnight to sign up on line for a limited number of tours of the nuclear reservation that will be available from April through September.

Cameron Hardy with the Energy Department told KONA 300 people signed up in the first 20 seconds early Tuesday, and more than 1,000 in the first half-hour.

Only 2,500 slots were available for the five-hour tours that include the B reactor, which produced plutonium for the bomb dropped on Nagasaki to end the war with Japan.
