JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Thirty-seven years after a Marine sergeant was shot dead in North Carolina, his ex-wife and two men face trial on murder and conspiracy charges.

William Miller was found dead on a road near Camp Lejeune in 1972. The case remained unsolved until Miller's sister contacted a newspaper reporter looking into cold cases. The resulting stories uncovered new information.

Miller's ex-wife Vickie Babbitt is scheduled to go to trial in March. George Hayden and Rodger Gill also are charged with murder and conspiracy.

Prosecutors say Hayden shot Miller after Babbitt lured him to a secluded road. It happened after Miller came back from a year in Japan and found his wife living with Hayden.

Lawyers for the three people charged either declined comment or did not return calls.
