GOLD BAR, Wash. (AP) — The Washington Transportation Department says crews plan to close both directions of US2 east of Gold Bar on Wednesday morning to remove a 28-ton concrete panel that fell off a big rig.
Transportation officials recommend that skiers headed to Stevens Pass from the Seattle area plan to be east of Gold Bar before 8 a.m. or after 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
They suggest that truckers consider using Interstate 90 over the Cascades and that other drivers postpone their trips or choose alternate routes.
Crews plan to start alternating traffic flow at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Two large tow trucks will be used to remove the panel from the highway shoulder.
It fell from a tractor-trailer rig that jackknifed on Sunday, closing the highway for several hours.
