COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A dip in air quality caused by a layer of cold air at lower elevations in northern Idaho prompted officials to ban outdoor burning in five counties.
The National Weather Service on Monday extended an advisory until early Wednesday for a region that includes Boundary, Bonner, Kootenai Shoshone and Benewah counties because of stagnant air conditions.
The agency says the weather conditions have the potential to increase pollution levels in the region and may be a problem until Wednesday at noon.
