Spokane, Wash. - By this time next year the corner of 37th Avenue and Glenrose in South Spokane could be home to a new sports complex.

Spokane's Little League is buying 20 acres from Morning Star Boys' Ranch to build a sports complex there. But in a public meeting on Tuesday night, dozens of neighbors spoke out against the project. Most say they don't want to see extra traffic or noise in the area.

Others claim Morning Star Boys' Ranch is selling the property to pay for the defense against lawsuits alleging sexual abuse against children at the ranch. But director Joe Pickert says that is not the case. He says the sale is a business opportunity for the ranch, as well as a community service.

Despite the concerns voiced at Tuesday night's meeting, Spokane Little League says it is about to close on the sale. They hope to start building the sports complex this summer.
