SPOKANE, Wash. -- Fifty-two cars have been stolen in Spokane since Sunday.
Spokane Police are putting a bigger effort into getting victim's their cars back. Of the 52 thefts, the majority of the victims have their cars back.
Margaret Carter has had her car stolen 5 times in the past few years and is tired of being a victim. Carter has gotten her car back every time but it wasn't in good condition.
"The police were so diligent. We were lucky the kids who took it, they would ruin it, but they didn't take it far. It was usually pretty close in the neighborhood," said Carter.
Spokane Police Department has taken all 52 of those reports since the beginning of the week. They says officers have recovered 75% of those cars. They say getting those kinds of results can often take weeks. The National Recovery Rate is only about 50%.
The department says their success all comes down to paying closer attention to car theft stats. They also say they are putting lots of resources into prevention as well.
