PEND OREILLE COUNTY, Wash. -- Five people were injured in a two-vehicle crash early Saturday morning 15 miles south-west of Newport.

Washington State Patrol troopers said the driver of a Toyota Prius failed to stop at a stop sign at State Route 2 and Fertile Valley Rd. A Dodge pickup collided with the car, troopers said. Both vehicles were totaled.

Five people from among both vehicles were injured, according to WSP. The driver and a passenger in the Toyota were transported to Sacred Heart along with a passenger in the truck.

Investigators believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision. DUI and vehicular assault charges were expected.

Both southbound lanes of State Route 2 were closed for more than two hours following the crash.
