Trial for man accused of kidnapping and murder to start Monday

SPOKANE, Wash. – The trial for a man accused of kidnapping and killing a young woman in Spokane is set to begin Monday.

Detectives said Gary Stoddard killed Heather Cassel, 20, in March 2013 near Spokane Falls Community College.

Gary Stoddard and his nephew were arrested on March 12th. Stoddard admitted to shooting her once in the chest and then in the face, according to officers.

Stoddard’s nephew Jon Ritchey took a plea bargain deal for his role in the murder.

Several other women have come forward claiming Stoddard victimized them as well.
