Ninety-three-year-old local artist Sister Paula Mary Turnbull, the creator, fed the goat in front of a crowd that had gathered around it.
The Garbage Eating Goat has been in Riverfront Park for the last 40 years consuming a diet of litter and leaves.
After the birthday cake feeding, the party continued at O’Doherty’s Irish Grille & Pub. A special selection of beer from Iron Goat Brewing Company was being served in his honor at $1 a pint.
Turnbull, a nun of the Holy Names order, has created other well-known works around Spokane, including the Australian Sundial, also in Riverfront Park, and the sculpture of Anna and Alta Brown in Brown's Addition.
