TEKOA, Wash. -- Tekoa High School leaders said the school was evacuated Monday morning after a teacher noticed a suspicious device.
The principal of the high school said it was found around 8 a.m. and a staff member called 911.
School officials said the students were evacuated to busses and were taken to an elementary school two blocks away.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and searched the building to ensure no other devices were there. Authorities determined the device was a play plastic hand grenade.
It was determined that kids had been playing at the school over the weekend.
School leaders said the device was not a prank.
