KENDALL YARDS, Wash. -- A local chef asked the public to help build two restaurants in 2013 in Spokane.
He opened the second on Thursday thanks to support from the community.
It was a unique kickstarter asking the public to donate online to help pay for two new restaurants. It raised more than $30,000.
Back in December, Adam Hegsted was still building the first of the two restaurants. The Yards was a concept he created, a ‘bruncheon’, where you could enjoy brunch all day.
He started a kickstarter campaign to raise $34,000 to finish The Yards and start another one, The Wandering Table.
“It really helped make things go a little bit smoother and a little bit easier when we opened the doors,” said Hegsted.
Donations came from than 100 different people.
The Yards has been open for two months. Hegsted's other restuarant, The Wandering Table, is a restaurant offering tapas, small plates made up of local food.
“This has really been my dream for a long time and to have everything come together is a really neat thing,” said Hegsted.
Both restaurants join the growing Kendall Yards community. Hegsted said in addition to having restaurants in a new neighborhood, he is excited for people see food from around the Inland Northwest served in a fun and different atmosphere.
