Driver crashes into concrete pillar in Downtown

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Spokane Police said a driver has life-threatening injuries after he crashed into a concrete pillar on 2nd Avenue just before the Maple Street Bridge

Authorities closed Walnut starting at 2nd for hours Monday morning while crews investigated the crash.

Traffic was being diverted near Frank’s Diner. Access to the Maple Street Bridge from 2nd Avenue was blocked.

Burlington Nothern Santa Fe Railway engineers are inspecting the bridge. Two trains have gone over the bridge since the crash.
