ARLINGTON, Wash. -- Boomer the dog, who was found in the Oso landslide debris field where his original owner was missing, is back home with his family.

Vets at Arlington Veterinary Hospital said 15-year-old Boomer likely would not have survived the cold weather and rough terrain much longer.

The Golden Retriever was missing for several days and was found Wednesday with injuries to his legs and hip.

Initially it was thought Boomer was a landslide survivor and searchers cheered when he was found in the slide debris field. Even though the dog was not a slide survivor, his rescue gave a boost to search crews.

According to Dr. Krystal Grant, Boomer lives about three miles away from the slide and wandered from his home and ended up in the debris field. His injuries were from the rough terrain in the field.

The veterinarian said Boomer's current owner lost her brother in the landslide. He used to be Boomer's owner, but he had given Boomer to his sister.
