QUINCY, Wash. -- The Quincy Police Department is investigating dead rabbits found around the City’s high school.
The School District suspects this was a prank by football rivals from Ephrata. Quincy played Ephrata last Friday night in football and Quincy’s mascot is the Jack-Rabbits.
The Quincy football coach spotted several people outside the school Wednesday night and they fled when the coach approached them. Police and district officials said the coach discovered dead rabbits in various locations on school grounds. The rabbits were hanging on trees, the scoreboard, the goal post and on the field.
Authorities said they found at least five dead rabbits.
School officials said this is not the first time this has happened.
Quincy Police said the case remains under investigation and the person or persons found responsible for killing the rabbits could face wildlife-related charges like hunting out of season if that is determined to be the case.
Quincy School District Superintendent said the district discourages such behavior. The Ephrata School District had no comment on the incident.
