SPOKANE, Wash. -- A friend of Delbert Belton says she found him badly injured in his car Wednesday night. She says she’s having a hard time coping with the loss.

On Monday, Natalie Flom attended the court hearing for Demetrius Glenn who is accused of robbing and beating Belton with his friend Kenan Adams-Kinard last Wednesday.  She said she was scared but she came for “Shorty.”

“I was afraid and I don’t know why but I thought Shorty was afraid at the end and nobody should have to feel like that,” said Flom.

Flom and Shorty became close friends over a year ago when he taught her how to country dance. Flom said Belton asked her to come play pool with him at the Eagles Lodge in northeast Spokane Wednesday night. She says traffic made her late and when she arrived she saw Belton’s car in an adjacent parking lot with its head lights on.

“I thought he left his car light on. I went to turn it off and then I called 911,” said Flom.

Flom found Belton badly injured.

“There was dead silence and I was screaming as I was dialing,” said Flom.
A stranger came from the ice arena to help her out. She says she didn’t let go of ‘Shorty.’

“He hated to be lonely and I didn’t want him scared still, think it was still happening, so I made sure he knew I was there,” said Flom.

Belton died early the next morning.

Flom said she is thankful the men police believe are responsible for Belton’s death are in custody. She also knows that loved ones of both the suspects and the victim are hurting.
