SPOKANE, Wash. -- Officials say almost 50 people from the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area were participating in the Boston Marathon.
KREM 2 has not heared of anyone from our area being injured during the explosions at the event.
Three of those runners completed the marathon and their finish times were about an hour apart.
One of the runners, Mike Lauffer, was ready to leave the course when they heard the explosions.
“We were probably at least half a mile from the finish line but it was quite loud,” said Buratto.
Another runner, Jason Gillmer, who traveled to Boston with his family was even more shaken up.
“My wife and two kids were not more than a block away from the scene of the explosion and then a second one happened,” said Lauffer.
All of the runners say they were reaching out to other runners from Spokane as soon as they heard what had happened and were able to account for most of the runners from the area.
