SPOKANE VALLEY-- Deputies arrested a teenager for a suspected DUI after he crashed into a pole in Spokane Valley.
Witnesses called 911 around 6:00 a.m. Sunday to report the collision at Shaffer Road and Dishman Mica Road.
The vehicle reportedly swerved in and out of both directions of traffic on Dishman Mica before the crash. Driver Stephen Stebbins, 18, was pulling the steering wheel back-and-forth, according to deputies. The vehicle slid sideways and struck the large, steel pole on the passenger side.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office says Stebbins and his brother were both drunk and fighting before the crash. His brother moved from the passenger seat to the backseat on the driver’s side during the argument. Deputies believe if his brother had not moved the crash would have killed him.
Stebbins and his brother suffered only minor injuries. The driver was arrested and taken to the hospital to be treated.
