Burglars hit 17 cars in one weekend in Coeur d'Alene

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho.--Coeur d’Alene police officers took 17 auto burglary reports over the weekend. The majority of the cars were parked in public places outside of businesses, according to police.

The businesses are located on Ironwood Drive, Appleway Avenue, Canfield Avenue, and Neider Avenue, according to police. The burglaries occurred during the early morning hours. 

Police said twelve of the vehicles had their windows smashed. They added the other cars had been left unlocked. Items taken from the vehicles included suitcases, purses, laptops, iPods, iPads, wallets and cell phones.

Police said there has been a steady increase in auto burglaries and vehicle thefts.

Six vehicles were reported stolen over the weekend. Three of them were still unaccounted for on Monday.
