SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) -- Of all the opportunities Liam Stewart has had, the one he grabbed and held on to with an unmistakable passion is hockey.
The Spokane Chiefs' rookie forward says his dad, musician Rod Stewart, is a soccer guy. And his mom is a rugby fan. But at a very young age he worked to carve his own path.
Despite growing up in California, he got the hockey bug on the other side of the country. When he was 3 or 4 and in New York for one of his dad's shows, he went to a Rangers game. He was skating the next day.
Media outlets report Stewart played his way up the hockey ladder and eventually was asked to attend the Chiefs' camp, where the coach says he attracted attention with his athletic ability.
