CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — The National Science Foundation has awarded the College of Idaho a $1.3 million grant so the school can improve seven biology and chemistry research laboratories.

The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that college President Marvin Henberg said U.S. Rep. Walt Minnick's office assisted the school during the final stages of the grant's approval. He said the money will help give the college a first-rate training facility.

Sara Heggland, chair of the biology department, said much of the research to be conducted in the new labs will focus on issues that affect the intermountain West, including research on toxins in the environment and their effects on human health.
