Former Griz star dies in Wallace mine accident

WALLACE, ID. -- A former football star for the University of Montana died Friday morning at the Galena Mine in Wallace, Idaho.

Timothy Allen Bush, 29, of Pinehurst, Idaho was killed in the accident. Bush, an All-American in 2003, was a defensive end at the University of Montana.

Bush worked for United Mine Services, a company contracted to work at the Galena Mine, which is owned by the U.S. Silver Corporation.

United Mine Services tells KREM 2 News Bush was killed by a rock burst, an occurance in mines when a rock explodes under heavy amounts of pressure.

According to Heather Bailey Foster, Executive Assistant at Galena Mine, the accident was at approximately 8:00 a.m.

Bush's brother and father also work at the Galena Mine.

No one else was injured in the accident.

The accident is under investigation by the Mine Safety and Health Administration.
