SPOKANE-- A Haz Mat investigation on Spokane's lower South Hill forced officials at Lewis and Clark High School to cancel classes.

Crews responded to the school at 4th Ave. and the 400 block of S. Howard just after noon Tuesday.

They found about a gallon of hydrochloric acid spilled in a third floor stairwell. Investigators say a student was carrying a container of the acid from the storage room to a classroom when it slipped out of the students' hands and fell to the floor. No one was hurt, but crews evacuated the entire school as a precaution.

Emergency closed 4th Ave. from Stevens to Wall for the investigation.
