Hot, dry conditions bring Fire Restriction Order to Eastern Washington

SPOKANE, Wash.-- The Bureau of Land Management-Spokane District issued a Fire Restrictions Order for multiple Eastern Washington counties Thursday night. The restrictions became immediately effective Friday, July 14.

 The restrictions take place in the following counties: Adams, Asotin, Benton, Chelan, Columbia, Douglas, Ferry, Franklin, Garfield, Grant, Kittitas, Klickitat, Lincoln, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens, Walla Walla, Whitman, and Yakima.

The restriction includes no fireworks or exploding targets on public lands.

BLM reminded people to put out their campfires completely before leaving the camping area.

BLM advised people to use caution when driving on roads or trails with high grass. All motorcycles and All-Terrain vehicles have to be equipped with a functioning U.S. Forest Service approved spark arrestor.

Officials said the fine punishment for knowingly or willingly breaks these violations could face up to a $1000 fine, 12 months in prison or both.
