WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Democrats and the President score a major victory Saturday night for national health care.  The narrowly got the votes to pass their own version of the bill in the House.

The hotly-contested debate went until almost midnight.  But the Democratically supported public option was included in the bill.  It proposes to spend a little more than a trillion dollars insuring 36-million Americans.

"This was not about party, but people.  This was about making sure all Americans have access to health care," said Maryland Democrat Rep. Steny Hoyer.

The legislation would require most Americans to carry insurance and both consumers and companies would be slapped with penalties if they defied the government's mandates.

Republican Washington State Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers says there are other ways to give Americans health insurance.

"I think there is a better way.  We need health care reform that's going to reduce the cost, lower premiums for families and small businesses.  We need to pass medical liability reforms and address the waste fraud abuse in the current system."

Saturday night's vote was 220 to 215 with 39 Democrats voting against it and one Republican in favor.  But it's not set in stone yet.  the Senate still has to vote on their own version of the plan.  If it doesn't pass, the bill is dead.  If it does pass, the House and Senate will meet to decide a final version of the bill.

It's long past time that Nancy Pelosi went the way of Tom Foley. It's long past time we Americans take our country back. Our country wasn't founded on the principle of each according to his need; out country was founded on the principle of equal opportunity and if you want it, work for it. For those who truly believe that the government is there to take care of them, go live in some other country where governments do just that. They also control every aspect of your life including how many children you can have, where you live, and where you work. You live in a dive where families cram into two or three rooms and a vehicle or travel is out of the question. That's what Obama and the Democrats want for you. If you don't want that, it's time to get involved; it's time to throw them all out and start over! And that includes the Kenyan-born Obama who is not an American citizen and is not a legitimate president.

Think every-one needs to work/sacrifice all we have to get Pelosi (AKA beetle juice) and the entire herd of the corrupted infection known as our elected politicians thrown back into the cesspool they crawled out of.

So dega77, the armed services r really not there 2 take care of us, they r simply fighting 4 the profits of war-making!?! That they have a job and Goldman-Sachs is protected is what it is really all about; u just may be on 2 something . . . The IRS, the FDIC, the federal reserve, the CIA, FBI, HHS, 'Homeland Security', the SPD, city council, the mayor, etc., etc., r not there 4 us they r there 4 them? Since non-Constitutionally curtailed governmental policing and financial "services" r not there 4 us how on God's green earth could we expect that government offered healthcare could b there 4 us either? I hear that! I hear you bohica! I got 1 of those useless humanitarian degrees like that Monfort dude. But u guys can rest easy b/c I take my humanitarianism seriously, you know, like Jesus, Gandhi, MLK, Mother Teresa, St. Francis, and such: tis a great time 2 utilize a Teresa quote, "Gandhi felt fascinated at knowing Christ. He met Christians, and felt let down". Non-violence is the Way!

Please, help us. My family needs this to pass the Senate. We are sick and can't afford to see a doctor. I am untreated asthmatic (we can not afford the drugs), and my wife has hurt her ankle very badly. We can not afford the x-rays. We can not seek medical attention because we are burdened with bills. We both work two jobs. If I am lucky I may be able to get enough hours at one part-time job which will give us health care for three months.
