WASHINGTON--Many people are confused about the new Health Exchange system, as the deadlines for enrollment keep changing. Here are the details for the state of Washington according to the Exchange website.
Monday, December 23 is the deadline for people who are previously uninsured to begin enrollment. People who meet this deadline will have coverage beginning January 1, even if the application is incomplete. The first payment is due January 15 for these people.
Those who do not have insurance by March 31 will be charged a penalty of either $95 or one-percent of their annual income, whichever is greater. This is also the deadline for open enrollment.
The penalty for not having insurance will increase next year according to officials.
