SPOKANE - The first batch of H1N1 flu vaccine should arrive this week in the form of a nasal spray. The spray vaccine is intended for people between ages two and 49, who are not pregnant.
The Spokane Health District expects to receive the regular H1N1 vaccine, approved for most people, by the third week in October. When it arrives, the Health District will distribute it to health care providers, who will give the vaccinations to their high risk patients. The Health District will also be providing vaccinations to people in the Centers for Disease Control's "priority groups," who can't get the vaccine through their own provider.
Priority groups include:
- Pregnant women
- People who live with or care for infants under six months of age
- Healthcare and emergency medical workers
- Anyone from six months to 24 years of age
- People from 25 to 64 years of age with health conditions putting them at higher risk of complications from the flu.
The Health District has scheduled three, free, community vaccination clinics for people in priority groups.
- October 24th at the Central Spokane YMCA from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- November 7th at the Spokane Valley YMCA from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- November 14th at the North Spokane YMCA from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
