SPOKANE-- It’s one of the hottest trends in fitness right now.
Bikram yoga gives a whole new meaning to sweating it out. Studios crank up the heat to triple-digit temperatures to give participants the ultimate experience.
At Yarrow Yoga in Spokane, the room sits at a toasty 105 degrees. It’s that heat turning people on to the practice. The poses promise to strengthen and tone your body, but the heat helps athletes burn calories faster and warms up the muscles.
Anyone in that room is also promised buckets of sweat, which gets rid of toxins in your body.
Yarrow owner Beth Galis calls this workout unlike any other.
“There’s no missing the part that it’s a hard workout, but since it’s so relaxing, instead of feeling over-worked you feel energized,” she said. “It’s just hot at first, and it’s intimidating, too. Folks are scared of the heat, but you adjust to the heat. It takes about five classes. You’re hot and sweaty, but everyone is.”
Galis opened the studio a year-and-a-half ago. She’s from Spokane and loves seeing the interest grow from the ground up.
The workout is a massive calorie burner. Anyone in the Bikram yoga studio can burn from 500 to 1,500 calories.
The classes are for everyone, from beginners to experts. Classes last 90 minutes.
