Whitworth graduate with Muscular Dystrophy makes his dream a reality

SPOKANE, Wash. -- A Whitworth University student is making his dream a reality. 

Ryan Sutherland, 22, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The disease is tearing down every bone in Sutherland's body but it hasn't stripped his ambition.

Sutherland had a dream to graduate college and another to share his inspirational message through public speaking.

He recently graduated with a degree is psychology with the help of his father and caught the eye of the principal of West Ridge Elementary the last time he was on KREM 2.

On Friday, he captured the attention and hearts of at West Ridge Elementary.

The school's Principal, Mandy Surratt said, "He's really a great inspiration to kids our age because he pushes through life even with challenges and I believe at every age you're going to have challenges in your life that you're going to have to put aside"
