SPOKANE, Wash. -- It takes a lot of volunteers to make Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery such a comforting place for parents and their kids. Hearing from them helps highlight why the KREMCares Diaper Drive is so important.

Lana Renn is a retiree who found the Vanessa Behan nursery on her quest to volunteer. She started by working two Fridays a month and, pretty quickly, asked if she could come in every Friday because it was so fulfilling.

She said while many parents have a different story that led them to their situation, there is a common thread: they all want to be good parents.

That's why they seek out help, Renn said, especially after the diaper drive when they can get fifty diapers at once. In the months leading up to the diaper drive, the nursery only has the resources to hand out a dozen at a time.

“But when there's the diaper drive and we're able to give them a bag of 50 diapers, Oh my gosh, They just are thrilled,” said Renn. “They go, 'really? Oh my gosh. This is fabulous. Oh, we live in a good community, there's so many giving people.’ They're just -- they're overwhelmed. They just are very thankful."

Renn said volunteering at Vanessa Behan has shown her just how big the need is for the diapers, something she wasn't aware of before.

She also said the parents have been anxiously awaiting this drive the past several months as the nursery's own diaper supply had been depleted.

The KREM Cares Diaper Drive is designed to help keep children Warm, Safe and Dry. The 2014 Diaper Drive benefits the Vanessa Behan Crisis nursery which assists parents and families to provide safe care and necessities for their children. Most families served by the Crisis Nursery can’t cover the essentials, such as diapers and wipes. Help us keep children Warm, Safe & Dry. Just $10.00 dollars buys a diaper bag for a child in need (includes 50 diapers & wipes). Purchase your bag at any Spokane area Rosauers from May 8-11, 2014.
