CHENEY, Wash. -- The Cheney family who lost their roof in Monday’s wind storm said they are surprised and grateful at the number of people who have come forward offering to help them.

The Marlin family scrambled to find a temporary fix after the wind ripped the tin roof right off the top of their trailer home. An early estimate to fix the roof was $1,100, money the Marlins do not have.

The Red Cross gave the family $500 for materials needed for repairs, but the family did not expect the countless calls they received from people offering their assistance.

The family used a tarp for cover their home immediately following the wind storm, but with another wave of wet weather on the horizon they knew they would need a more permanent fix.

By noon on Tuesday, the Marlins had a good start on fixing their roof, and the resources to finish the job.

Jarms True Value Hardware store in Cheney offered to give the family an additional $500 of credit to buy building materials right away.

The store owner said the family may reimburse the store at their own convenience, as they can afford it.

A  fund has been established for the Marlins at the Cheney Federal Credit Union.
