SPOKANE, Wash. -- An Army Major from Spokane will become an astronaut trainee.
Anne McClain recently graduated from the U.S Naval Test Pilot School. She's one of eight candidates that will start training with NASA.
McClain's mother could not be more proud of her daughter because she's seen Anne work hard to get to this point since she was a child.
Charlotte Lamp was working in her garden when her daughter told her she was going to become an astronaut earlier this month. It's an accomplishment 34 years in the making and her mom never stopper her from pursuing this career.
"It's been her whole life, it's been her passion," said Lamp.
When Anne was 6-years-old, she wrote a story about a family traveling to space for a day. He mom saved the story, knowing this would be the start of her dream of going to outer space.
The chance of NASA selecting a candidate in 2013 was nearly 1 in 800.
Both Anne and her mother wants this to be an example of setting a goal and realizing it. No mater how long it takes.
