If you’ve been around the VA Medical Center recently, you’ve probably noticed a big fence going up. It's part of the hospital's new security package, costing more than a million dollars.
“We take patients’ privacy and security to heart here,” says Bret Bowers, the Public Affairs official at the VA Medical Center. “It's part of our mission.”
Stone work and wrought iron will make up the new fence posts. The fence, along with added security cameras and some decorative lighting adds up to $1.6 million. Some neighbors say that's a waste of money.
But the medical center says the project is funded by federal capital dollars that must be used for security upgrades. Bowers says the fence will help insure patients are safe.
The entire project should wrap up by November.
