COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho -- A North Idaho man accused of using a cartoon character mask as a disguise appeared before a judge Tuesday.
Deputies arrested Kyle Campbell over the weekend on robbery charges. A judge set his bail at $150,000.
Police said Campbell followed a barista, who had walked outside to throw out the trash, back into the Lean Bean Espresso stand near Downtown Coeur d’Alene.
Officers said Campbell pointed a handgun at the two baristas inside and ordered them to fill a bag with cash. Surveillance video shows the robber wore a black hooded sweatshirt and a SpongeBob Square Pants mask over his face.
Investigators arrested 24-year-old Campbell over the weekend.
At his appearance, Campbell told the judge the SpongeBob mask investigators found in his Worley, Idaho home over the weekend is his daughter’s. He also called himself a victim of his own circumstances.
