SPOKANE-- In the wake of Wednesday's announcement, members of the Spokane Police Guild are weighing in about their new police chief.
Leaders with the guild say communications will be key and they’re committed to putting their full support behind the new chief.
Officer John Gately serves as co-vice president of the Spokane Police Guild. He's aware of some of the concerns brought up about Frank Straub's past, but feels that now is the time to focus on the future.
Throughout the chief selection process, the guild was contacted by police officers in Indianapolis and White Plains, New York, the places where Straub worked. The reviews were mixed; some comments were flattering, others not so much. Gately says that’s all in the past.
Moving forward, the guild says that maintaining open lines of communication will be crucial and they’re hopeful it’s a good fit for all involved.
The guild hasn’t had much of a chance to sit down with Straub, but they look forward to having that opportunity sometime soon.
