SPOKANE -- An officer involved shooting on the lower South Hill terrified neighbors who watched the situation unfold.

The crime scene took over an entire neighborhood in the area of 8th and Adams for nearly 12 hours.

Neighbors said they saw a shirtless man walking nearby, screaming. They also heard at least three shots fired.

Police arrived to see a man run from the scene. They pursued him on foot until he hopped into a Jeep Cherokee. The man led officers on a short pursuit as he drove through yards and fences near 10th and Monroe.

The chase ended after about 5 minutes in the Huckleberry’s at 9th and Monroe. Neighbors said officers forced the man to crash and told the suspect to drop his weapon and put his hands up. Seconds later, those witnesses said they heard about ten shots.

State Patrol is handling the investigation.

Authorities said no more information will be released until Wednesday.
