SPOKANE COUNTY -- A Mead area man said he badly hurt his arm after slipping on snow and ice, and now he wants the Spokane County to pay for his medical bills.

Bill Price’s arm is in a sling after he said he slipped on a sheet of ice in the middle of the street in his neighborhood. Price lives in the 14500 block of N. Chronicle, which is in Spokane County, and said he never sees plows in his neighborhood.

County spokesperson Martha Wheatley-Billeter said county streets are plowed or deiced based priority level, and sometimes it takes a while for crews to clear rural areas. She said Spokane County could be liable, but Price would have to file a claim proving the County was negligent, which he has not done yet.

Price said he is not sure how he would prove negligence, and hopes someone will take responsibility before someone else gets hurt.

“Somebody has to be held responsible for not plowing and not salting these streets,” Price said.

Wheatley-Billeter said there have been no injury claims filed in the past three years.
