SPOKANE, Wash. -- A man was shot and killed after police said he was trying to attempt to force his way into a north Spokane home.
It happened near North Wall and Dalke around 7 p.m. Wednesday night.
A witness told police a man the homeowners knew broke into the house through a doggie door. The homeowner fired a shot at the intruder, 28-year-old Marshall J. Balduff. Officers performed CPR but were not successful. The medical examiner says Baldruff died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
The homeowners said Balduff had been threatening them and they believed he was armed with a large knife at the time of the shooting.
Major Crimes Detectives served a search warrant and conducted a search of the scene. All involved parties were cooperative with the police investigation. Police said the coroner and forensic unit may also join in the investigation looking for evidence. Officers did recover a large knife at the home as the homeowners suspected. Police believe the knife belonged to Balduff.
No arrests have been made and the investigation will be forwarded to the Prosecutors Office when complete.
