SPOKANE -- Spokane Fire officials say a firefighter suffered a burn to his leg while knocking down a house fire near 4th and Altamont on the lower South Hill.

The call came in around 12:20 p.m. Monday.

A woman who lives there said she returned home after running errands, noticed the smoke and called 911.

The 2-story home was fully involved when firefighters arrived. There was heavy smoke in the area.

Authorities said a firefighter fell through the first floor and suffered a burn to his leg. He was not hospitalized and returned to work shortly after. Nobody else was hurt.

The home suffered so much damage, no one is able to live there. The homeowner said she will stay with family. She lost her husband to brain cancer last year.
