ALMIRA, Wash. -- A mother from Almira is heading to Texas in late June to shave her head for cancer awareness.
Carla Hood’s son died while battled cancer. He was fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Hood recently joined 46 Mommas: Shave for the Brave. The team of mothers meets June 30th in San Antonio to shave their heads for the annual awareness event. This is the fourth year for the event.
The team represents the reality that on average 46 families each weekday receive the news that their child has cancer, said organizers.
The 46 Mommas team was created in 2010 with a goal of raising $1 million for pediatric cancer research. Organizers said the group raised more than $1.08 million to date.
The 2013 team includes parents from 20 states and Canada.
