CHEWELAH, Wash. -- 49 Degrees North Ski Resort plans to open Friday.
Three feet of snow blankets the top of the mountain, 5700 feet in the air.
Heavy rain soaked the snow on the ground Wednesday. Workers said the heavy, wet snow makes for a great base because it compresses well and lasts for a long time.
Last year, a La Nina weather pattern dropped significant snow on the mountain in November, allowing the resort to open the weekend before Thanksgiving.
