Victim in fatal downtown Spokane shooting identified

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man shot and killed in a downtown alley on Tuesday night.

Officials said Jason M. Pederson, 37, was found in the alley north of 2nd and east of Lincoln in downtown Tuesday evening.

Police said the suspect in the fatal shooting called 911 to identify himself as police responded to the scene.  He was on scene and cooperative when officers arrived and was taken into custody.

When officers arrived on scene, they rendered first aid to the adult male who sustained the gunshot wounds. The victim succumbed to his injuries before he was able to be transported to the hospital.

Investigators are looking into what, if any, relationship there was between the two parties and what transpired prior to the shooting.

The Technical Assistance Response Unit was called to the scene to collect footage from surveillance cameras in the area. Witnesses to the incident area asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
