Umpqua Bank robbery suspect caught with $7k hidden in couch cushion

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. --- Court documents revealed more information Friday about the man arrested for robbing Umpqua Bank twice.

Michael J. Yardley, 51, faces two counts of first degree robbery. Yardley allegedly robbed Umpqua Bank at 11205 E. Sprague Thursday, about four months after he initially robbed the same bank, driving the same mint green getaway car.

Employees told deputies Thursday Yardley had showed them what appeared to be a gun, and demanded money from a teller. They said he escaped with about $7,400.

A deputy spotted a car that matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle parked in a nearby apartment complex on Felts Road. A neighbor parked next to the car told the deputy which apartment the car’s owner lived in and described him as somewhat of a “hermit.”

Court documents show when officials searched Yardley’s home, they found $7,504 in case hidden under the love seat in the living room. Officials also found a replica firearm that was consistent with the weapon used in both robberies, according to court documents.
