The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Spokane Police responded to a home near Rowan and Haven around 6:00 p.m. on November 28 for a domestic violence situation involving a gun.

During the initial call Tuesday, Spokane Police Chief Craig Meidl said the 911 operator could hear shots being fired. When officers arrived on scene, the suspect had already left the scene.

While two officers were sitting in their patrol cars, the suspect opened fire on the officers. Meidl said the officers returned fire, hitting the suspect. The officers immediately rendered first aid to the suspect and he was transported to the hospital where he later died. SPD reported that there were no other injuries.
