RIGGINS, Idaho -- An armed and dangerous man wanted out of Colorado is dead and a Sheriff's Deputy is wounded after an altercation, according to the Idaho County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office says Deputy Fred Carey was trying to apprehend 47-year-old Curtis Scrivner in Riggins, Idaho Tuesday.  During the altercation Deputy Carey was shot twice.  Scrivner was later shot and killed.

The Idaho County Sheriff's Office hasn't released any further details at this time.

Deputy Carey was transported by Riggins Ambulance to McCall Hospital and then transported by St. Al's medical helicopter to Boise.  He is in stable condition.

The Salmon River Joint School District went into lock down Tuesday afternoon while officers searched for Scrivner, who was wanted out of El Paso County, Colorado for failing to appear.  Classes in Riggins have been canceled for Wednesday.

Authorities say Scrivner has threatened law enforcement in the past.  For that reason, the Idaho County Sheriff's Emergency Response Team and many Idaho State Police units were called to help find him.

KREM 2's company station KTVB in Boise has a crew on the way to Riggins.  Check back later for updates to this developing story.
